Cut Milk Consumption To Cut Snoring

Monday, October 1st, 2007

Snoring is essentially the noise that results from air trying to pass through an obstructed airway. The obstruction can be caused by a variety of reasons. Hence different snoring treatments can have different rates of success with various people.

If you have snoring problems, like my husband does, then you may want to try this as your first defence: cutting down milk consumption. Milk is known to be mucous forming and can be at the root of your respiratory problems. Hence, you may want to consider cutting down milk to see if your condition improves.

Excess mucus is normally produced when you have a milk intolerance or allergy. During the day, you have the opportunity of blowing it away to clear your airways. However, when you are sleeping, you do not. Mucus builds up and obstructs your airways, causing you to snore.

If you are in the habit of eating cheese and biscuits with a glass of hot milk before sleeping, then it is about time you give these up too. If you are consuming milk for its rich protein and calcium sources, then find other alternatives, that do not give up an allergic reaction.

It will be a good idea to keep track of your snoring levels when you do an elimination diet on milk. After a month of elimination you can try introducing foods back into you diet, one at a time, to see if the snoring returns or goes back to previous levels. To test for snoring levels, ask your spouse or family member to help you check. Ask them to help score you from a scale of 1 -10 where 1 = little or no snoring and 10 = unbearable levels of snoring.

A specialist can help pinpoint the foods that are potential troublemakers. The most common food allergies are milk, peanuts, nuts, eggs, soy and some seafoods. Gluten, which is a protein found in some grains may also cause allergy related gastrointestinal problems in some people.
