Herbs For Skin

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Many cosmetics nowadays contain chemical ingredients that are actually harmful to your skin. What are supposed to help you with skin rejuvenation or wrinkle reduction, can worsen your skin condition, without your realization. Over the counter products such as body washes and bubble bath typically contain detergents that can irritate sensitive skin.

On the other hand, you can consider using natural products, such as herbs, to help restore and keep its vibrancy . Herbs come from parts of a plant and are eco-friendly. You feel good while not adding to the pollution of mother earth. Generally, herbal products also do not require any animal ingredients or testing.

It is of course, far better to use herbal products, which come from organic plants. You basically want to avoid using products that may increase toxicity or cause a reaction to your skin.

Herbal preparations such as those made with balancing formulas of witch haze, mallow and botanical oils can also help to firm sagging skin and prevent the fine lines, scars and wrinkles acquired from pregnancies, weight loss or acne. These products specifically target problem areas — and if used regularly, can prevent and lessen skin problems.

Your skin is exposed to air pollution, bacteria and viruses. You should think about using herbs which are all natural and have been used by humans since the beginning of time. While these do not prevent aging (which is essentially a natural process), they can help by not increasing the toxic levels of your body, keeping you healthy and well.

TCM Soup Recipe For Clear Skin

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Ingredients:
1/2 radish
1/2 carrot
1/2 great burdock (niu bang)
6 dried mushrooms
Seasoning:
Sea salt

Method:
1. Rinse radish, carrot and great burdock.

2. Peel and cut into pieces.

3. Rinse mushrooms and then soak in water.

4. Remove stems of mushrooms and set them aside.

5. Place all ingredients into a pot, pour in sufficient water and bring to boil.

6. Lower heat and continue cooking for 1 hour.

7. Add in sea salt to taste.

Here are some tips by my TCM practitioner if you want to have a nice skin complexion:

- Great burdock expels heat and removes toxins. Mushroom nourishes the skin, while carrot improves skin lustre. When you combine the three together in a soup, it helps promote the metabolism of the skin, giving it a nice smooth complexion.

- The soup is suitable for women who are in their middle ages and who would like to have a glowing complexion.

- Those with a “cool” body constituent should cook the soup without the radish.
