Resarchers from France’s International Agency for Research on Cancer, and the European Institute of Oncology studied the importance of Vitamin D supplementation. They analysed 18 studies, which involved 57,311 participants. They found that those who regularly took a standard vitamin D vitamin every day had a 7 per cent lower risk of death than those who did not.

Where can you get Vitamin D in natural sources of food? Vitamin D is found in milk and yoghurt, eggs, fatty fish and yeast. Your body also naturally produces it when exposed to sunlight.

However, if you do not eat enough of Vitamin D, then by all means, consume a supplement on a daily basis.

Do Not Overdose On Vitamins

Although vitamins are good for your body, it is important that you do not overdose on them either. This usually happens when you supplement your diet with vitamin supplements.

For instance, if you have too much vitamin D in your system, you may get kidney damage. Vitamin D is generally good for you, but you need to know the limits. Liver damage is very serious and can cause many other problems, resulting in death.

If you are taking regular doses of niacin, you may find yourself experiencing flushing and stinging of the skin. This is natural, and a side effect that can be managed. However, if you take too much niacin, you are at higher risk of heart and liver problems.

Mineral supplements can be dangerous too. Even if you are just increasing some of your mineral intact by a modest amount, an imbalance may develop which impacts on the ability of your body to utilise other minerals. If you take more than just 5 times the recommended doses of supplements such as iron, chromium, zinc or selenium, it can actually be a toxic for your body.

Guavas are one of the best fruits around. Other than Vitamin C, it contains the following: folate, carotenoids, potassium, fiber, calcium and iron. Calcium is typically not found in high amounts in many fruits. The guava fruit is also cholesterol, saturated and sodium free, plus low in fat and calories. It is high in fiber. With its nutritional content, it is said to also help reduce cancer risks and lower coronary heart disease risks.

In recent studies, guava has been found to have sugar lowering properties which can help diabetics lower their sugar count. While testing is not fully conclusive, results have been promising as a natural means to help diabetics combat high sugar.

Traditionally, guava leaves are used for medicinal purposes, as a diarrhea remedy and their antimicrobial properties. However, excessive consumption of guava leaves and fruits may cause constipation.
